Responding to Emergencies (including Fighting Hunger and Homelessness)

Adult Housing 
Provides safe, low-cost housing and supportive services to homeless women and their children. Support services include case management, counseling, vocational/educational services, and information and referral.   
YWCA of Binghamton/Broome County
 

Assistance and Referral Program 
Offers assistance to residents in need, by providing referrals to other human service agencies and programs in and outside of the Deposit area. Also manages the local Toys for Tots program.
Deposit Foundation and Rural Housing Services
 

Center for Help 
Provides referrals to appropriate agencies for provision of housing, health, and welfare. Insures access to most current job openings through postings from local and out-of-state employers. Acts as a registrant for constituents with children for the New York State Child Health Plus Program. Emphasizes programs, events, educational and health opportunities through provision of brochures and postings from community agencies.
Broome County Urban League
 

Crisis Services (Project Uplift)
Provides case management and peer support services (parent partner) to adults and children with a diagnosed mental illness. Services available through referrals from Broome County adult and children's single point of entry and include assisting individuals and families to access mental health services, meeting basic human needs, advocacy, and referrals to other community resources. Emphasis on preventing psychiatric hospitalizations by providing community-based support.
Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier
 

Emergency Assistance  
Salvation Army program provides immediate emergency material assistance to individuals and families in need. Includes food baskets, clothing, household goods, and a daily bread line. On-site community kitchen serves breakfast Monday through Friday and dinner Thursday through Monday. Catholic Social Service program provides food and clothing vouchers to individuals or families in economic crisis situations. Provides layettes for newborns. Offers toy/clothing program in early December for children who are less than 13 years old.

Emergency Housing  
Provides short-term housing to homeless women and children ages 16 and older who are in crisis situations. Offers 24-hour a day admission, case management, counseling, vocational services, and assistance in securing permanent housing. Provides referrals for funding.   
YWCA of Binghamton/Broome County
 

Emergency Programs 
Provides rapid response assistance, including food, clothing, shelter, financial assistance, and emergency communication, to victims of disasters or emergencies.  
American Red Cross, Southern Tier Chapter
 

Homeless and Low-cost Housing 
Rents 85 single-occupancy rooms on daily, weekly, or monthly basis to adult men. Emergency shelter also available to homeless men for up to three days.   
YMCA of Broome County
 

Intensive Independent Living 
Intensive services such as case management, parenting skills, counseling, daily living skills, and vocational/educational services for young women, ages 19 to 26 and their children, who have struggled to live independently in the community.
YWCA of Binghamton/Broome County
 

Legal Services 
Provides free legal counsel and representation to low-income, elderly, and disabled persons in non-criminal matters that affect the client’s income, housing, or physical safety.  
Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York
 

Non-residential Services 
Provides support, legal information, and advocacy to victims of domestic violence, including "services on site" to hospitals to meet with victims.   
SOS Shelter 

Refugee Program  
Provides many services for refugees in Broome County, including assistance in obtaining housing and food, interpreter services for  appointments with health providers or government agencies, and job counseling.  
American Civic Association

Residential Services
Provides safe housing, food, counseling, etc., for women and their children who are victims of domestic violence. 
SOS Shelter

Service Units
Provides emergency material assistance through community volunteers to individuals and families who are residents of Deposit, Whitney Point, and Windsor.
