Equal Access to Residents (BEAR )
Care coordination that connects children and youth, ages 5-18 living in rural
school districts to appropriate mental health services.

Chemical Dependency Prevention Services
Implements variety of techniques including public education, information and
referral, presentations to specific groups (such as students), and workshops for
employers and other groups. Integrated into all Mental Health Association
programs.

Education and outreach community education presentations regarding cycle of
domestic violence, prevention, and roles of law enforcement and community
agencies.
SOS Shelter
Community Services
Provides education to public about sexuality, with focus on prevention of
adolescent pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Includes adolescent peer
education and counseling and enhancement of parent/child communication.
Planned
Parenthood of South Central New York
Counseling and Support Program
Provides
short-term individual and family counseling by a certified Master of Social Work
and psychologist. Also trains volunteer peer counselors who provide additional
support and information by telephone.

Multiple Sclerosis Society, Upstate New York Chapter
Diagnosis, Assessment, and Treatment Program
Provides specialized, multi-disciplinary services to infants and children
from birth on who show delayed development in any area. Diagnostic/Treatment
Center provides assessment, evaluation, treatment, and family support services.
Speech and Hearing Center provides outpatient diagnosis and treatment, primarily
to infants and children with speech and/or hearing impairments. Respite
program offers daily care for developmentally disabled people of all ages.

EncorePlus Breast Cancer Prevention/Education/Advocacy
Assists uninsured and underinsured women obtain free breast and cervical
cancer screenings at various providers. Services include transportation to
screenings and child care.
YWCA of

Fitness Programs
Includes aquatic and exercise programs for general public. Targets special
needs populations, including people with eating disorders and arthritis
sufferers. Offers exercise opportunities that can augment physical therapy.

Health and Physical Education
Provides comprehensive physical education, health, wellness, and fitness program to
the community at large. Specially designed exercise programs provided for
special populations in need of rehabilitative or individualized services.
Swimming, gymnastics, youth and adult basketball and recreational leagues, and many other
activities for infants through adults.

Provides safety classes.

Information and
Referral, Education, and Advocacy
Provides information to public on behavioral health issues and
services available in community. Assists people in identifying their needs
and refers them to appropriate mental health services. Offers community education
programs to schools, businesses, and other organizations. Mental health
professionals speak on various topics such as suicide prevention, stress
reduction, depression, and anger management. Promotes and seeks protection of
rights of individuals suffering or recovering from mental illness, to assure that
they receive quality, appropriate mental health services via advocacy.

A variety of sports including soccer,
gymnastics, basketball, swimming, football, lacrosse, aerobics, tennis, karate,
and volleyball.

and Girls Club of Western Broome
Self Help Resource Center
Assists in development and maintenance of more than 250 local support groups
serving more than 1,700 individuals yearly. Makes referrals to individual groups
as appropriate.
