Earned Income Tax Credit

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) estimates about 3,500 eligible Broome County residents missed out on millions of dollars last year by not applying for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) when they filed their federal income tax return.

The Earned Income Tax Credit is a tremendous financial resource for many low- and moderate-income families. Unfortunately many eligible families are either unaware of the tax credit or hesitant about applying for it.

United Way of Broome County is working with the Tax-Aide Program of AARP, Workforce New York and the Broome County Department of Social Services (DSS), GHS Federal Credit Union, and the IRS to increase awareness and participation in the EITC.

If you earned less than $39,783 through employment in 2007, you may be eligible for an Earned Income Tax Credit. Call

to find out if you qualify. We will refer you to locations within Broome County that are offering FREE TAX PREPARATION assistance.
